Cora ~ ARPH #12727

Introducing Cora, or Corrie, as her foster family calls her. Corrie is a 2-year-old, blue merle, female Aussie that is on the smaller side (30 lbs.). She was found as a stray in Indiana and brought to a shelter before she came into rescue. Corrie loves being with her people and is sweet, loving and playful. Her desire to be close by is so strong that she has jumped the 4-foot fence at her foster home to get on the other side where her people are. She doesn't run away and will come right to you, but she shouldn't be left alone in a yard except for a quick potty break, unless the fence is high enough that she can’t jump it. She likes to chase a ball and will bring it back and drop it on command. She is also interested in Frisbee and soccer, but is still a novice at these activities. She also enjoys wrestling with the other doggies in her foster home.

Corrie is housebroken and she's good about going into a crate, although she's much happier if there is a human in the room or in sight. If you keep a couple of Nylabones around she will always go to those when she has a chewing urge, which she gets several times a day. She also likes a rawhide after dinner but she eats the strip-type rawhides a little too fast, so she gets the rolled-up, pressed or knotted kind. Corrie likes stuffed animals but thinks they're for tearing apart. Tug toys and hard rubber balls last longer. Corrie loves going for walks and would probably be a good companion for a runner. She's got lots of energy and would probably love playing with kids in the yard. She'll play in the house if there's another dog, but if not, she's happy just to sit and snuggle with her people. Corrie rides well in the car and shows no signs of carsickness.

Corrie does a great job greeting people that come to her foster home to visit and makes friends very quickly. When on walks she is a bit nervous about strange men and will sometimes bark at them until they get closer, and then she’s good with having them pet her. Corrie is not in a home with cats right now, but she has shown a prey drive towards squirrels and rabbits. Due to this behavior we are recommending that she should probably have a home without cats. Corrie can be a bit bossy with other dogs and probably wouldn’t mind a home where she can be the alpha. She is currently in a foster home with 2 six-year-old Aussies, a male and a female. She has always done well with the male Aussie and immediately respected him as the leader of the pack. She did challenge the female in the beginning and would probably enjoy a home where she doesn’t feel the need to challenge another female for her spot in the pack. We feel that a home without other female dogs would be best for her.

Corrie is spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on preventative. When Corrie came to us she was in heat and weighed only 22 lbs.; you could see every one of her ribs. Over time and with a great diet she has put on 8 pounds and they look great on her, but she will probably always be a fairly slim dog. We also found out that she wasn’t expecting puppies and she could be spayed. Corrie is being fostered in Northbrook, IL. If you've got room in your heart for her, Corrie will give you all the love, hugs and kisses you can handle. If you’re an approved adopter please contact Missy at missycramer@gmail.com. Ramsey ~ ARPH #12654

As far as I know, Ramsey has always been my name. My story is not sad. Whew!

As an active Australian Shepherd, I was just too much of a dog for my first family and would leave their rural property. Well, of course I explored; I had no proper fence and no reason to stay home. They didn’t want to pay to bail me out of doggie jail again, so I came to ARPH.

I had no veterinary history or vaccination shots and I was 5 pounds underweight. I also had heartworm. Bummer. I am a lucky dog because I live with a foster family who helped me get well.

I am learning to walk with a loose leash and not lunge after squirrels or bunnies while on leash. I am getting really good at sitting before crossing the road. I now walk better with an “easy walker” type harness, after my foster family stopped using it upside down :-)

For exercise I get to go on a long daily walk as well as going to PetsMart. Turns out I react to other dogs and bark at them. I can get really excited and lunge (yeah I know, not good doggie behavior.) In my defense, I never had any other dogs to play with when I was young. I also never learned to share my toys or my humans with other dogs, so I need to learn not to resource guard. I need a forever owner who will help me gradually learn to be with other dogs and be calm. Humans are another story; I love them all.

My favorite activities are chasing sticks and tennis balls, riding in cars and swimming. If you like to do these activities, I am the dog for you! You can see a video of me at http://youtu.be/UMvnq3J4Alg

Fact be told, emotionally and behaviorally, I act like a 6-month-old dog in a 3-4 year old dogs’ body. I need to be an “only” dog until I grow up emotionally and am better socialized with other dogs. What is required of my new family is patience, kindness, consistency and lots of exercise, and finally plenty of treats and training. My house manners are 100% perfect (but I do bark at dogs walking in front of the house).

If you are up for helping me learn, I’ll be your smart, lovable and goofy family member. Since coming into ARPH I have been neutered, vaccinated, treated for heartworm and am on heartworm preventative. My foster family is located in Glen Ellyn, IL. If you are interested in adding me as a member of your family and are an approved adopter, please contact Missy at missycramer@gmail.com. If you have not applied to be an adopter with ARPH, please fill out our adoption application
