Breeze

Breeze ~ Missouri
Female ~ 3 yo ~ Red Bi

Breeze is looking for a very special person to love her forever !

Breeze came to us from a horrible puppy mill having lived her entire life in a crate . She had been bred at a very young age with multiple litters. Shortly after coming to us she surprised us by whelping a litter of 6 puppies. She was so thin the vet had not noticed that she was pregnant during her initial exam. Rehabilitation of dogs coming from puppy mills is always difficult. Breeze not only suffered from the routine phobias such dogs acquire but had the extra load of trying to be a good mommy while learning to cope in a new place. Her fear of humans was so great that when a human entered the room she would leave her puppies, lose all her senses and run hard and straight into the wall (like a deer). Then she'd slump into a quavering ball of fur against the wall, shaking violently while casting worried eyes towards the pups.

We’ve been working hard to rehabilitate Breeze and it’s paying off. Initially Breeze, like all the others dogs that had come with her, was afraid of everything, including things as mundane as “space” and grass.  She was afraid of every new object she saw, a leaf falling on the ground, a new food, and especially humans.

Now, Breeze lives comfortable without a great deal of fear or stress in her foster home. She has bonded to her new mom showing great affection and attachment. She has learned to play with other dogs and with her foster mom. She has not yet bonded to the rest of the family. She is no longer afraid of unfamiliar objects within her home. Her personality is “quirky” making her foster mom laugh often. She is agile and athletic, very intelligent, playful and loving . Sometimes she is also skittish and highly reactive to her environment and movement of any kind. She will probably remain a flight risk forever due to this. On the up-side Breeze now shows “joy” and delights her foster mom everyday. She says that Breeze has truly enriched her life.

Breeze needs a special person who is willing to continue to work with her while using the methods that we have found work for her. She can only go into a home that will have a serious commitment to her further progress. We will be available to help for as long as it takes. Our only goal is Breeze’s success.

For now Breeze has only learned to trust in one home and with one person. May not sound like much, but for Breeze this alone is immense! Transitioning to a new environment and person will be difficult . If you think you have the heart, the serious desire, time and willingness to accept Breeze, love her and further nurture her please contact us. The pay-off is knowing this special little girl is gaining a life she would other-wise not know. It won’t be easy but we think it will be worth it.

Micah

Micah ~ Missouri
Male ~ 2 yo ~ Red Bi

Micah is a very special boy for that very special person. Micah's most outstanding trait is his “pure” heart and soul. His temperament is sound and he wants badly to “connect” to those he can learn to trust. He was not always this way. Micah has a horrendously sad history. He came from a puppy mill at 16 months of age. He had spent his entire life in a dark crate among 500-600 other dogs in crates living in absolute fear, filth, noise and no care. Like most such dogs, Micah's learned response to new things was total “shut down” while resolving to allow humans to do whatever they wished to him. When I first bathed Micah he laid flat out in the tub, his toes and entire body curled and rigid. He would have drowned as his head also remained laying on the bottom of the tub. He offered no resistance. I had to lift his head to prevent this. I have never before seen such a pitiful creature. All of the dogs that came in with Micah did much the same but Micah was by far the worse.

Since that time Micah has been in a home working to rehabilitate him. He has come far!! He is now relaxed and happy in this home. He interacts with the family and the other animals (cats, dogs) in the home. He has learned to play, first with other dogs, then with a few family members. He's learned that being touched by those he trusts is a good thing. He is no longer afraid of unfamiliar items in the home. He can go for a walk and not panic if the environment is not too overwhelming. He is able to express genuine excitement and joy when those he loves enter a room.

To appreciate Micah's progress, which may seem like nothing, you need to learn something of his past. Previously Micah was afraid of everything! Things as mundane as grass on his feet as he had not felt the ground before; “space” as his world had been only the sides of a crate; any and all movement and especially humans who had only treated him very badly. Micah would not even attempt to walk in the presence of humans. He had to be gently taught by manipulating his legs under him one step at a time over a period of time.

Today Micah doesn't resemble that dog of so many fears. He was a dog with a big hole in his heart and soul. We've been working to fill those voided areas. What we've found is a loving, kind and gentle soul who has not given up on humans. Micah may never be absolutely “whole' or become a normal out-going fellow. He has learned confidence and to be loving and happy in his foster home; to appear nearly as a normal dog in that environment. Presently, we are trying to teach him to move beyond that. He is going to a “shy dog” class and learning to trust beyond his boundaries at home by being in a controlled new environment with others who all will be doing the right things to help him along. He is doing very well in this new class. He is also spending some time with a trainer in her home, also to expand his boundaries (and is doing very well there). This particular trainer specializes in fearful dogs and we are extremely blessed to have found her willing to help Micah. She too sees something really wonderful within him.

Micah can only go to a home that is willing to continue to help him grow by providing the same methods that we've found will work for him. Although he's come a very long way he is fragile and we do not want to see him fall apart by a lack of commitment and caring. So, if you feel you have the heart, time and the willingness to love and care for this very special dog let us know. We will work with you all the way. Our only goal is success for Micah. He deserves it !!

Please contact Georganne Vervaet, ARPH Rescue Rep, or Carolyn at kidseverywhere@msn.com.

Rocky

Rocky ~ Illinois
Male ~ 9 yo ~ Red Merle

Rocky is a 9 yr old red merle male and he is such a great dog I would love to see him go home with someone who appreciates the breed. He is doing well at his foster mom's house although he is becoming quite taxing on her two cats, who must sneak around to get to their litter and food in order to avoid being "herded" unwillingly back into the bedroom. Otherwise, he is doing just fine- quite docile and obedient, but still has plenty of "run" in him when it is time to play.

His first owner taught Rocky basic obedience, as he is able to sit/shake/play catch. When he was younger, he lived on a farm where he had acres to run, and he was much happier. He will go outside on a tie out for short periods of time and stay in a fenced yard. If let out without a fence/tie out, he'll chase cars/squirrels, etc. so a fenced yard is necessary.

He is nervous around children, though he doesn't normally act aggressively towards them. I am not comfortable with small children near him (those at eye level with him) as he is not affectionate with them and moves nervously around them.

When alone in the house, he howls periodically, but sleeps otherwise, does not chew furniture or shoes. He pulls when walking on a leash, but will go where you lead him. I am really sad to give up this loyal animal. He is strikingly beautiful, affectionate with his owners, and loyal. He is extremely adaptable, having lived on a large farm and in a small town home. He's extremely smart, with his keen shepherd's sense of work ethic. He loves to go for walks/runs with his owner (anything outdoors). He is scared of the vet, but doesn't act aggressively there (just cries).

Rocky is located in Morton Grove, IL.

If you are interested in giving Rocky a quiet loving home without kitties, please contact Georganne by clicking here.

Gage

Gage ~ Wisconsin
  Male ~ 5 yo ~ Black

Introducing Gage! Gage is a very sweet black Aussie Mix male who just turned 5 years old and is looking for a new home due to no fault of his own. He is being turned into rescue because his owners are unable to keep him. Gage is about 45 lbs and has always been loved and well cared for by his owners.

Gage is a little shy when you first meet him but warms up quickly and loves to play and run around the yard, you will catch Gage running around with a case of the Aussie zoomies when he gets excited playing with a dog buddy or his person.

Gage gets along great with other dogs.  He lives with a Border Collie buddy. Gage loves to go for rides in the car.  He gets along well with people, but he would do best in a household with kids over 10 years old.

Gage is a sweet and loving boy, you will be rewarded with a very loving best friend once he is comfortable and bonded with you.  Gage is a medium energy Aussie who plays nicely.

Gage is neutered, up to date on shots, crate trained and house broken.  He is a sweet and wonderful boy who is waiting for his new forever home.

Gage is being fostered in Whitewater, Wisconsin. If you are interested in adopting Gage and are an approved adopter please contact Jeff at jburrer@wi.rr.com. If you are not yet an approved adopter please fill out our adoption application.

Josie

Josie ~ Ohio
  Female ~ 5 yo ~ Black

Josie is a 5 yr old spayed female Aussie, who is black with tiny white spot on her chest. Josie is ASCA registered, and comes from working lines. She is a good house dog, but like any proper Aussie needs a job! She shows a lot of interest in stock and the few times I had her on sheep she was great. She loves the boy dogs but would prefer a home with no other female dogs and no cats or other small critters. She is great in public though and with all people, and loves kids. Obedient and smart! Josie is currently located near Cleveland, OH; and if you are interested in her, please contact Michelle at mmurv99@lek.net.

Willow

Willow ~ Kentucky
  Male ~ 6 mo ~ Blue Merle

Willow was born on Dec. 16, 2009, so he will be turning 6 months old soon. He weighs between 30-35 pounds at the moment, so he will be a pretty good sized Aussie. He is very sweet and mellow at times, but he does love to play! He will most definitely get into your things if not properly watched or crated when you are out of the room or away from the home, so please keep him confined when you're not able to watch him. Willow was eating a raw food diet, but after giving it some consideration, he was switched back to dry food because I knew most adopters wouldn't be up to the challenge of maintaining this new diet. Willow has tons and tons of energy, and would be best suited in a home with a large, fenced yard to let him play all he wants. Willow was previously adopted once before and was recently returned because his owner lived in an apartment and it was just not the environment he needed. He would also do well in a home with other dogs, cats or even rabbits.

He has all his vaccinations, has been neutered, and on flea/heartworm prevention. I have signed him up for a puppy training class and will continue to work with him on his training at home prior to adoption. I will be very thorough in my search this time, because I want this transition to be permanent for him. this poor little guy has been through so much in his short life, I want him to have the best.

This is most important: he is blind in his right eye and completely deaf, which makes his training more difficult but not impossible. I think he may be able to see out of his left eye enough to do sign language, but it would have to be big gestures. I am also going to start teaching him touch signals as an alternative. I would recommend his adopter purchase a vibrating collar to further enhance his training capabilities, Australian Shepherds are extremely intelligent and his handicaps certainly do not make him the exception.

To make this little doll your new best friend please contact Rebecca at rdbeasley12@transy.edu.

Hayes

Hayes ~ Kentucky
  Male ~ 1 yr ~ Blue Merle

Hayes is a young, male Aussie mix around 8-10 months old. He weighs 47 lbs, stands about 20 inches tall, has a fluffy full tail and gorgeous blue merle and white coat.

Hayes is neutered, up to date on shots and heartworm negative. He is learning how to walk nicely on leash, go in his crate and is doing well with housetraining. Hayes will lay around just waiting for a belly rub, ignores the cats, but has not been tested with kids or other animals yet

Hayes will need a special family to keep him safe. You see Hayes is a product of poor breeding, what is known as a double merle, and he is probably completely deaf, but has good vision. His foster dad is very experienced with special needs dogs and can tell you they are just like "regular" dogs. Hayes is residing in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

If you have not experienced a visually or hearing challenged dog, you will be amazed by their intelligence and compensation skills. A visually impaired dog can memorize a yard after one trip. There are lots of resources, including adopters of similar dogs, to teach you how to train them so they can live their life fully.

Potential adopters should have a fenced yard to keep them safe and be committed to specialized training such as sign language or touch training.

For additional information, please contact Andrew at 270-307-1551 or email: shizukana@bbtel.com.

Baby Girl

Baby Girl ~ Indiana
  Female ~ 1 yr ~ Blue Merle

Introducing Baby Girl. Baby Girl is a gorgeous blue merle girl who is approximately 15 months old. She is full of life and energy and can be very mischievous and silly. She gets along great with all her foster brothers and sisters and would do best with another canine sibling as she has learned to cue off of other dogs. She gets really excited when she gets human attention and raises her head around licking in the air, so very cute and loving.

Baby Girl is blind in her left eye, has some vision in her right eye, but we are not sure of the exact amount. She is mostly deaf.  She appears to hear loud sounds but has difficulty in determining where the sound is coming from. Baby Girl has a skin condition which has been determined to not be contagious, appearing to be allergy related. Recently we've been giving probiotics a try but it is too soon to tell if this will help alleviate this issue. With a little bit of training and some loving, Baby Girl will make a wonderful and happy companion.

Because of her special needs we will require a fence. Due to a generous donation Baby Girl is also about to start learning recall with a vibration collar and also knows to come in after dark when she sees a flashlight waived.

Baby Girl is spayed, micro chipped, up to date on shots, crate and house trained. She is located in Southern Indiana. If you are interested in adopting Baby Girl please contact Wynne Ton at w.ton@comcast.net.  If you have not filled out one of our applications to adopt you can find it here.
